Orchid

A miraculous recovery
1

I’ve thought about this orchid a lot. The strangeness of growing a plant that should be in the tropics on the branch of a tree in my bathroom. This one was probably cultivated in in a specialised lab and if it hadn’t gotten so sick I never would have known that plastic hoop was there. Do they leave these on to make the plants sick so you have to buy more - like a kind of build in obsolescence? Or maybe someone was just in a hurry? I had to take off all the leaves and nearly all the flowers fell off. I said a prayer for it and let it be. I had pretty much given up on it after nearly three weeks of no change - then - last night I happened to look at its pot and there was a brand new leaf! I’m was so happy I jumped up and down. Still a long way to go before it’s fully recovered but I like the (very imperfect) metaphor that if you can remove the conditioning that keeps your heart tight or restricts your roots, even if it feels like you’re going to die eventually there is liberation in facing and releasing the thinking that keeps you stuck and unable to expand into your true nature. I was really scared to risk repotting the plant let alone removing its leaves but I thought if I don’t it’s going to die anyway so I may as well give it a shot. Been here a few times on my own journey. Thanks for reading folks. Check out the new leaf below!
